TEC Testimonial

For this month's edition of The Experience Company's series of success stories, Todd Mattox shares about his experiences with The Experience Company as a board member and being a mentor.

On the day of initiation, it is shared that “Betas are Betas for life.” Clear to this commitment, are the many alumni who volunteer their time and energy to the programs  of The Experience Company (TEC). Nebraska Betas are serving as dedicated mentors, enriching leadership development experiences, and assisting with career placement and internship opportunities.

I have been fortunate to participate in two unique experiences through TEC, both as an individual mentor, as well as serving on the board of directors which brings direct involvement with the undergraduate leadership team.

Since the fall of 2018, I have been paired with Jack Keating (AT 2492) through the mentoring program and have really enjoyed the foundation established in our connection. We have been able to meet on several occasions, over coffee, lunch, and most recently fun conversations in between hacks at a golf simulator – if only my virtual game transferred to the real course. It has been encouraging to learn of Jack’s enjoyment with Beta, placement with a fantastic engineering internship, and future goals throughout and beyond his college experience.

My involvement with TEC has also included service on the board and regular interaction with the undergraduate leadership team - comprised of Drew Spadaro, Eric Goodwin, Matt Langan, and Shaun Edgecomb (read more about the team here). These young men have proven to be innovative thinkers, wonderful team collaborators, and strong leaders among their peers. The diligent work of this team drives operations of TEC - including Gallup Strengths coaching, mentor pairing, and placement in internship programs. Each of these young men are great Betas and wonderful ambassadors of how TEC provides resources to further advance young men and move the mark for the Nebraska chapter.

For alumni, parents, and “friends of Beta” who are interested in learning more about TEC and what involvement might mean for them - I extend a personal invitation and encourage attendance at our annual meeting on Saturday, September 28th before the Nebraska vs Ohio State football game(more details here).
