TREVOR MUMFORD (AT 2477)
"When I was originally rushing, I was looking for a house with opportunities that would set me apart from your average fraternity male. I wanted the house with the best academics, best brotherhood, and the best connections that would kick start my professional future. During my rush dinner with Tanner Haas and Gage Mruz, they caught my attention right off the bat with Beta’s top campus GPA, philanthropic outreaches, and most importantly, The Experience Company. To think that I could join a house where I would get access to a web of professionals and alumni who could help me get an internship was amazing. I knew the moment I was pitched The Experience Company that I wanted to be a Beta, but more so, that I wanted to eventually work for this company. To my surprise, just half a year later I was offered to become the director of the internship program during the second semester of my Freshman year.
Over the past year, I’ve been lucky enough to help our undergraduates with resume advice, bring in speakers to give interview tips, and connect peers with potential internship opportunities. In addition, I’ve learned a great deal about myself. Having to reach out to professionals and be a leader for my peer applicants was something that didn’t come easy at first, but with the more experience I gained, the more I started clicking in my role. I now feel confident in my ability to reach out to anyone who I think could be of assistance to one of my brothers, as well as I’m not afraid to get on brothers if they’re not taking the steps they should be in their internship searches. As a result of this gained experience, along with the guidance of the whole undergraduate team and professional/alumni connections, all 22 applicants were placed in an internship last year and we have about half so far placed this year. It’s accomplishments like this that makes me proud to be a Beta and proud to serve this company.
In addition to interning with The Experience Company, I’ve had the opportunity to apply the concepts I’ve been preaching to others on myself. With the help of alumni like Andy Ngo and current members of the undergraduate team like John Pfeifer, I was able to get a summer internship at Spreetail. I’m very excited to work for such a successful company as well as stay in Lincoln this summer. This will allow me to work closely with the rush team to make sure The Experience Company reels guys in as it did for me. Overall, I’m extremely blessed to have interned this position and can’t wait to see where the company goes in the years to come."
